Felixia Banck – Climbing her way to the top

It wasn’t always part of the plan for Felixia Banck to end up as a tree surgeon or a Timbersports athlete, nonetheless when her life was turned upside down, she decided to try something new and explore her love for nature.

At FSI Stump Cutters, we are proud to have Felixia Banck as our ambassador. Not only has she proven what hard work and a positive mindset can do, but with her high ambitions she is now climbing her way to the top within Timbersports and paving the way for more women to join her. But it was not always part of the plan for Felixia Banck to end up as either a tree surgeon or a Timbersports athlete on the Danish national team. Nonetheless, when her life was turned upside down, she decided to try something new and explore her love for nature.

A NEW START AMONG THE TREES

When both Felixia’s parents passed away within a short period of time, she had to close down her photography business and unfortunately, she was not able to start it up again. She therefore had to rethink her whole life and with a positive mindset, she decided to sign up for training as Forestry and Nature Technician. On the first day of training, she was handed a power saw, and then there was no turning back – she was hooked. Later during her apprenticeship, Felixia learned to climb the trees as well.

“I have worked as a tree surgeon– or a climbing tree carer – for three years now, and I absolutely love it. It might not have been the plan from the beginning, but now I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. In April 2022, I decided to start my own one-(wo)man business, Smileaf, and it’s going really well”, says Felixia.

A WOMAN IN A MAN’S WORLD

Alongside Felixia’s work as a tree surgeon, she has another great passion – Timbersports – a sport dominated by men, and at the world championships in Stihl Timbersports in October 2022 in Gothenburg, Felixia was the first woman ever to participate as part of a national team.

“At first, it was nerve-wracking to enter a sport so heavily dominated by men who physically by nature are stronger than women, but I also quickly realised that there is a lot of technique involved in the sport. I would say that it is 80% technique and 20% power”, Felixia explains.

But for Felixia, the ambitions do not stop here, and the goal is clear. Within the next two years, she wants to be among the ten best women in Timbersports and compete in the US, Canada, and Australia with the best of the best. An ambitious goal, but not an unrealistic one, according to Felixia.

“I want to show what we are capable of here in Europe – that we can compete among the best Timbersports athletes in the world – also in the women’s league. It is an ambitious goal for sure, and it requires a lot of hard work, but that is also what makes it so exciting. And to me, it is a realistic goal because I want it so, so much”, says Felixia.

CLIMBING HER WAY TO THE TOP

The way to the top can be long and hard – especially when you run your own business at the same time. That’s why FSI Stump Cutters support Felixia to help her achieve her dream of competing among the best within Timbersports.

“The support from FSI means the world to me. Recently, I went on a training camp in Canada where FSI supported me financially, and they have also helped me get a new, improved singlebuck saw. For me, it is massive to have this kind of support, and it will without doubt help me achieve my dreams”, says Felixia. FSI is happy to partner with Felixia, supporting her all the way to the top while she paves the way for more women to enter the world of Timbersports.

“From our very first meeting, I knew that Felixia was extremely ambitious and passionate about her work and sport – something we can really relate to. She is a tough woman with great values and a straightforward mindset, fitting right into the FSI mentality. We are proud to sponsor Felixia – regardless of her podium position – because to us, good values and hard work should always be celebrated”, says Kim Schmidt, Managing director at FSI Stump Cutters.
